Medical Gas Certification
![]()
Most people don’t realize how the work of UA members touches their lives each and everyday. Medical Gas piping systems deserve special attention and require a greater understanding than the average piping installation. State after state across the country is passing or working on legislation mandating certification for installers of medical gas systems.
In order to become a certified medical gas installer a journey worker is required to prove they have completed the required minimum 32 hours of training. They also need to demonstrate knowledge of the National Fire Protection Association standard 99c for medical gas and vacuum systems. Installers must also pass the required ASME Section 9 Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code exam. To the uninformed this may not seem that important, but to the piping industry, medical facility operator/owner, and to every patient it is.
